 Spring Semester at RTA

All classes are age specific and have a minimum of 4 students in order to run. Registration closes 5 days prior to each class starting. Classes subject to cancellation if we do not meet the 4 student minimum.

Adult art classes at River Tree Arts offers a wide range of classes in a variety of media and disciplines designed to inspire and develop creative vision. RTA’s adult programs inspire a life long connection to the visual arts by sparking the imagination, and promoting artistic confidence.

 


April – June

Thursdays

FEARLESS LANDSCAPE PAINTING (Acrylics) 10 to 12:30pm

Adults and young adults
Instructor: Caren-Marie Michel
6 week session: April 13 – May 25 (no class April 20)

Learn to be fearless in your landscape painting. Six weeks of studio landscape painting in acrylics working with reference photos to paint what you see with glowing color and light. We will explore simplifying your subject, using drawing for strong compositions, developing seeing skills, learning or refreshing some basics, having fun with painting and loosening up with your work. Each class will start with a brief demo on the topic of the class. Students will paint in each class from provided reference photos or from their own photo. Individual feedback and class discussions of work will help to strengthen painting skills. Materials list provided.

Fee: $172 (members $155)


INTRO TO POTTERY

Tuesdays, 6-8pm

Adults & young adults
Instructor: Megan Bliss
5 week session: May 9 – June 6

Throwing on the pottery wheel as well as hand-building basics will be covered in this 5 week pottery class for adults. Students will learn to make custom textures to create their own unique pieces of functional art! All finished pieces will be glazed on our final day of class and pottery will be durable and food safe.

Fee $160 (members $145) + $20 materials fee.

 

 

ADULT SUMMER…

Programs for Adults & Teens

June 24 to July 29

FUN & FUNCTIONAL, Hand-building & Pottery

Adults (16+)
6-week session, 10 to 12:30pm
Instructor: Cathryn Hammond
In this 6 week clay workshop with local ceramic artist, Cathryn Hammond, students will explore the wonderful world of clay through a series of different hand-building projects. Students will learn the basics of construction, creating unique surface textures using summer foliage as their inspiration. Plates, bowls, vases and planters will be among the projects, in addition to fun things for the outdoors like cancel pots and bird houses. Come join the fun!
Fee: $180 (members $162) + $25 materials fee

 

July 11 – Aug. 15

INTRO TO STONE SETTING

Adults (16+)
6-Week session, July 11 – Aug. 15, 6 to 8pm
Instructor: Marrick Auger
This is the perfect workshop for learning the art of stone setting. In this 6-week class, students will learn how to create a custom bezel, solder, set stones and more. Students will explore specialized stone-setting tools to design and create their own unique work. This is a great class for beginners and for those with some metalworking experience who want to advance their skills in stone-setting.
Fee: $156 (members $140) + $25 materials fee

 

July 22

METALSMITHING INTENSIVE

Adults (14+)
1-Day Workshop, 9 to 2pm
Instructor: Alice Carroll
Use metalsmithing tools to form, shape and create your own designs. Hammering, polishing, sawing, filing and soldering will be the main focus of class. Each student will create a piece with a bezel set stone in it.  Make earrings, pendants, wristband, rings, dog tags (necklace/ID or actual dog tag) during this 5 hour workshop. 8 student maximum.
** We will take a 45min lunch/recreation break halfway through class. Students are advised to pack a lunch.
Fee: $65 (members $60) + $15 materials fee

 

July 17 – Aug. 21

SCULPTURE: WORKING SOLID for Beginners!

Adults (14+)
6-Week session, July 17 – Aug. 21, 12 to 3pm
Instructor: Kevin Twaddel

Through a combination of hand-building and sculpting, students will learn to create a solid complex sculpture in stoneware clay inspired by both everyday objects and the imagination. Emphasis will be placed on learning how to split, hollow, and re-assemble each piece with aspects of glazing techniques. This class is designed with beginner students in mind and is taught by our ceramic intern, Kevin Twaddle. 
Fee: $207 (members $187) + $25 materials fee

 

 


Workshops & Craft Nights for Adults & Teens

Can’t commit to a weekly class? Check out our Workshops and Craft Nights designed for busy schedules!

Workshops are one-day events that take place, periodically, on the weekends. River Tree Arts strives to bring in talented practicing artists to offer you a variety of the finest and skilled experiences out there. From Belly Dancing to Exploring Pastels, our workshops afford you the opportunity to experience something new, within the arts, without a long term commitment.

Craft Night is an ongoing, 2 hour program that takes place every Thursday evening from 6pm to 8pm at River Tree Arts. We will offer a rotation of many different fun crafts and activities, such as Crafts with Driftwood, Aromatherapy, Custom Painted Signs and much more. Expand on the creativity you already posses and join us every Thursday night for a creative and social evening.
