Fall 2017

River Tree Arts offers a wide range of adult art classes in a variety of media and disciplines designed to inspire and develop a creative vision. RTA’s adult programs inspire a life long connection to the visual arts by sparking the imagination and promoting artistic confidence.

MONDAYS


FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING

Monday, 1-4pm
Adults and Young Adults
Instructor: Russel Whitten
8 week session: 10/02-11/27 (No class 10/09)

With professional guidance from Russel, students will discover how to represent what they see through studies in contour drawing, perspective, positive/negative space, and value.  In this 8 week drawing class, students will explore a number of traditional drawing techniques to see the world through a new lense, and increase observational skills. Upon completion, students will have a refined confidence in their drawing ability and be able to demonstrate various methods to representational imagery.  Fee: $264 (members $238)

TUESDAYS


METALSMITHING

Tuesday, 6-9pm (Evening Class)
Adults and Young Adults
Instructor: Alice Carroll
8 week session: 10/03 – 11/21

Students will learn how to use basic hand tools & the torch to make jewelry. Hot & cold connections will be taught. Through demonstrations and work time, each student will learn sawing, piercing, surface decoration, light forging, forming and basic stone setting. Students are encouraged to create their own designs using the techniques that are demonstrated.  Fee: $264 (members $238) + $30 materials fee

FEARLESS LANDSCAPE PAINTING (Acrylics)
Tuesday, 6-8:30pm (Evening Class)
Adults and Young Adults
Instructor: Caren-Marie Michel
8 week session: 10/03 – 11/21

Learn to be fearless in your landscape painting. Eight weeks of studio landscape painting in acrylics working with reference photos to paint what you see with glowing color and light. We will explore simplifying your subject, using drawing for strong compositions, developing seeing skills, learning or refreshing some basics, having fun with painting and loosening up with your work. Each class will start with a brief demo on the topic of the class. Students will paint in each class from provided reference photos or from their own photo. Individual feedback and class discussions of work will help to strengthen painting skills. Materials list provided. Fee: $230 (members $207)

WEDNESDAYS

 

WATERCOLORS 101
Wednesday, 1-4pm
Adults and Young Adults
Instructor: Russel Whitten
8 week session: 10/04-11/29 (No class 11/22)

Have you wanted to learn to paint with watercolor and just didn’t know where or how to start or do you already use watercolors and are looking to gain more knowledge? The success to learning to use watercolors has everything to do with the instruction you receive and stress-free environment in which you learn it in. Join local artist, Russel Whitten as he shares with students everything from how to apply the paint to composition and colors. This class is suitable for all levels. PLEASE NOTE: All classes are age specific and have a minimum of 4 students in order to run. Registration closes 5 days prior to each class starting. Classes subject to cancellation if we do not meet the 4 student minimum.

Workshops are one-day events that take place, periodically, on the weekends. River Tree Arts strives to bring in talented practicing artists to offer you a variety of the finest and skilled experiences out there. From Belly Dancing to Exploring Pastels, our workshops afford you the opportunity to experience something new, within the arts, without a long term commitment.

Craft Night is an ongoing, 2 hour program that takes place every Thursday evening from 6pm to 8pm at River Tree Arts. We will offer a rotation of many different fun crafts and activities, such as Crafts with Driftwood, Aromatherapy, Custom Painted Signs and much more. Expand on the creativity you already posses and join us every Thursday night for a creative and social evening.
