Drawing Degas with the Portland Ballet
May 5, June 9, July 7 & August TBA.
Sundays 2-4pm, $22/members, $25 non members (per class)
Join us for an afternoon of figure drawing with Portland Ballet company dancers.
They will model in the classic style of the iconic drawings by Degas, wearing traditional ballet attire.
Artists will have the chance to sketch the models for 2 hours, with a short break.
This is an open studio class; there will be no guided instruction. Please bring french easel or drawing board & all drawing materials. Space will be limited, please pre-register.

Expressions in Watercolor, with Judith Kinsman
Tuesdays, 10-12:30pm. April 2-May 14, no class 4/16.

Build a strong foundation in watercolor with local artist Judith Kinsman. Discover the joy of color mixing, composition and design in a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere. Learn to express yourself by developing your style. All levels welcome.

Join RTA art faculty Russel Whitten for one of our longest-running & most popular adult classes. This summer, Open Studio sets up en plein air at scenic locations throughout Kennebunkport to capture the iconic images of coastal Maine. Russel will work independently with each student as well as present a detailed lesson for the class. Students may choose to work in any medium, including pencil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor or oils. Please be prepared to work on location: French easels are available to rent from RTA for an additional $10 per class. Students will meet at RTA before heading out; some locations may require carpooling due to parking restrictions. All locations will be easily accessible. Materials not included.
Art Parties for Adults

Forget about taking your art seriously! Don’t worry if you can’t draw a straight line! Art parties are a fun night out with friends, a glass of wine and a table of art supplies. Each evening will be led by Gayle Fitzpatrick and will focus on a different painting style, artist or medium. We can’t promise you’ll leave with a masterpiece, but we can promise that you’ll have fun! BYOB.

A Wednesday evening summer series that will make your beach treasures into stunning jewelry.
Sea Glass Jewelry
6-8pm. June 5, 26, July 10, 24, August 14.
$40/members, $44/non members (per class)
This class will focus on using sea glass in jewelry. You will learn how to:
Drill holes in glass with a dremel tool, water, diamond drills & bits;
Groove & shape hard materials
Wire wrap, rivet and attach findings to your finished jewelry pieces.
This class will also teach you how to use diamond drills and carving bits effectively and
economically. Tools will be provided for class. If you haven’t had time for beachcombing, sea glass will be available. With metalsmith Steven Dube.
Beach Stone Jewelry
6-8pm. June 12, July 17, 31, August 7, 21

This class will focus on using stone in jewelry. You will learn how to:
Drill holes in different sizes & types of stone with a dremel tool, water, diamond drills & bits;
Groove & shape hard materials
Wire wrap, rivet and attach findings to your finished jewelry pieces.
This class will also teach you how to use diamond drills and carving bits effectively and
economically. Tools will be provided for class. If you haven’t had time for beachcombing,

Wire Wrapping
6-8pm. June 19, August 28

This class is designed to teach the fundamentals of wire wrapping. Wire wrapping is a method of
jewelry creation and fabrication that involves the use of basic hand tools to twist and bind wires
together to make beautiful creations. Once basic techniques are mastered the possibilities are
endless to create intricate designs. In this class you will learn how to make and shape wire into
jewelry forms. Examples include making links, wrapped settings for stones, clasps, earring wires,etc. Basic wire and tools will be provided. With metalsmith Steven Dube.
Documentary in a Day: Digital Photography

Photographer Karrah Kwasnik documented farm life in her last series, “The Organic Year”. The project spanned a full year and provided great depth of focus on the lifestyle of farming and seasonal transitions faced on an organic farm in New Hampshire. This class will be a fast-paced intro for beginning & seasoned digital photographers who wish to delve into documentary photography. Participants will photograph at two local locations to capture both industrial & bucolic images. Seashore Trolley Museum will let photographers capture the industrial feel of the trains waiting for renovation & repair in their outdoor & indoor locations. A local organic farm will provide a natural element. The class will end with a short critique at RTA; please bring your laptop or iPad to review photos. Students will meet at RTA before heading out on location and must supply their own digital camera, as well as have a working knowledge of their camera prior to the workshop. Drawing with Pastels

Artist Gayle Fitzpatrick will teach skills essential to drawing with soft pastels: pastel application, blending colors, color relationships and describing form through dark & light. Students will learn techniques such as layering, blending, hatching and stippling. Landscapes, portraits, still life and interiors are subjects participants will work on in this interactive class. Relief Printmaking
Session 1: July 20

Participants will develop a basic understanding of single & multiple block processes. Design, develop & carve a relief print using a linoleum block, inks and art papers. Techniques of carving, inking up and printing the block, pulling the edition and signing prints will be covered with printmaker Gayle Fitzpatrick: www.fugitivepigment.com. Materials included.
Cyanotype: Solar Powered Print
July 20 Rain Date July 21.
$60/members, $66/non members. Max 8. 10-4pm.
Experiment with an alternative printing process renowned for its blue hue. Participants will gain hands on experience in creating their own unique cyanotype prints using coldpress watercolor paper, Hake brushes and cyanotype solution mixed with the summer sun. Photographer Karrah Kwasnik will walk participants through the exposure/print process and the day with a short class critique. Materials needed: 8-10 sheets of coldpress watercolor paper sized 8”x10” and 3-4 black & white digital images printed on transparency film, available at office supply stores (Staples). Define Your Painting Style, with Carol Santora

The focus of this workshop is to help artists define their painting style through an in-depth critique of current work (within the last 6 months) and charting of preferences. All artists want to stand out amongst the crowd of other artists – to have a recognizable style that’s their own.
Learn which characteristics are prominent in your work and realize your painting preferences. These will be your focus in future work and will assist you in developingyour individuality as an artist. Bring pencil and note paper, and 7-10 completed paintings. Participants will learn listen and learn from individual & group critiques.
Develop Your Abstract Painting Style, with Carol Santora
10-2pm, Friday August 23
$40/members, $44/non members
In this workshop participants will be exposed to key abstract painting elements. In an abstract painting, form, color and line make up the subject rather than a literal representation of your reference material. Through demonstration and exercises, participants will expand and develop their unique voice in painting. Color, shape, line, value, textures, composition and simplification will be explored.
Participants will work in the medium of their choice, and must be comfortable using their preferred painting medium. Please bring painting materials and a pair of scissors, a kitchen implement or other object to use as reference, and 4-5 prepared supports in a variety of small sizes (ex. 5×7, 7×7, 8×10).
