River Tree Arts offers a wide range of Art classes for children in a variety of media and disciplines designed to inspire and develop an artistic vision and creative confidence. RTA’s kids programs inspire a lifelong connection to the visual arts by sparking the imagination, promoting creative problem-solving and building respect for the expression of other students.

MONDAYS

 

** SEWING **
Grades 2+
Monday, 3:30-5:30pm
Instructor: Lucy Hardy
7 weeks (2/26-4/09)
Join us for the fun, lifelong hobby of sewing. Students will use full-sized sewing machines to make a project that they will be proud of. Students will learn or fine-tune the aspects of running a machine, including threading, bobbin winding, and straight and zig-zag stitching. Proper scissor cutting techniques will be taught, as well as safety operations when using an iron. Boys and girls are welcomed.

** CREATIVE MOVEMENT**
AGES 3-5
Monday, 4:15 – 4:45
Instructor: Dolly Nguyen
February 5 through May 7 2018
This class introduces the basic elements of dance including rhythm and time, movement qualities & dynamics, space, and use of the body. Students will be able to explore their own movement within the age-appropriate creative structure of the class while developing gross motor skills, social awareness, and confidence. This class does not participate in our year-end performance.

** CREATIVE KIDS **

Creative Kids is an enriching after-school program grounded in the belief that children are inherently curious and learn by doing. This class will introduce the world of the arts to students in a nurturing and inspiring way that will boost fluency, comprehension, and confidence. Materials and techniques taught will be geared towards students age level. A great art class for all abilities, experiencing all the different mediums available. 10 student maximum.

** MIXED MEDIA MADNESS **
Grades K-5

Create unique pieces of art using an assortment of art supplies. Students will enjoy seeing how combining different mediums can create beautiful drawings, paintings, cards, posters, books. 10 students maximum.

** MUSIC, MOVEMENT & MAGIC **
Grades Pre-K, K
Wednesday, 10-11am

A great class to introduce your young one to music and expressive movement. A creative introduction to the magic of multicultural stories with musical instruments from all over the world, different styles of dance, drumming, singing and themes to fit the time of year. 8 student maximum.

** CLAY CLUB **
Grades 1-5
Wednesday, 3:30 – 5:30pm

7 weeks (2/28-4/11)
Clay Club offers young artists the opportunity to explore their creativity while experiencing everything clay! Students will experiment with a variety of hand building techniques as well as a chance on the pottery wheel. All projects will be fired in River Tree Art’s kiln and students will learn basic glaze application to finish the work that they will cherish for years. 8 student maximum.$182 (RTA members $165) + $20 materials fee

** EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAYS **

Grades K+
Wednesday, 12:30-3:30
Join us for early release Wednesdays, the first Wednesday of every month. Students will explore a variety of different art mediums. Instructors vary. 10 student maximum per workshop. $30 (RTA member $25)

WEDNESDAY February 7 – Gift making: Personalized Pins and Magnets
Instructor: Abbeth Russell
We will start off by making mini works of art on watercolor paper using a fun technique called wax resist. These works of art will be personalized based on who they are being made for. We will then turn these mini paintings into embellished magnets and wearable pins.

WEDNESDAY February 7 – Make Your own accessories
Instructor: Amy DesRoberts
Do you love to accessorize? Join us and learn to make your own personalized accessories…hair scrunches, headbands, ribbons, phone cases, bags…the list goes on. This class is designed to let the creative juices flow and students will learn how to operate a sewing machine by the end of class. Boys & Girls welcome! 8 student maximum.

** PHOTOGRAPHY **
Grades 3+
Thursday, 3:30 – 5:30pm
Instructor: Christine Anuszewski
6 weeks (3/1-4/5)
This workshop is for students who want to have fun and learn about photography. Students will focus on enhancing their creativity while learning about the art of photography. Students can bring a smartphone or digital camera. Join us for a fun class and leave with the knowledge of knowing how to take a better photo of what you see while also learning some basic photography tips! 8 student maximum.

** MODERN ART EXPLORATION **
Grades K-5

In this class, the many styles and movements of modern art will be explored. We will use acrylic paint, watercolor, colored pencils, markers, and crayons in unexpected ways. Experimentation and self-exploration through art will be encouraged.
