River Tree Arts offers a wide range of Art classes for children in a variety of media and disciplines designed to inspire and develop artistic vision and creative confidence. RTA’s kids programs inspire a life long connection to the visual arts by sparking the imagination, promoting creative problem solving and building respect for the expression of other students.

MONDAYS


CREATIVE KIDS

Grades K-5
Monday, 3:30-5:30pm
Instructor: Brigid Rankowski
6 weeks (9/11-10/23 ; No class 10/9)
Creative Kids is an enriching after school program grounded in the belief that children are inherently curious and learn by doing. This class will introduce the world of the arts to students in a nurturing and inspiring way that will boost fluency, comprehension, and confidence. Materials and techniques taught will be geared towards students age level. A great art class for all abilities, experiencing all the different mediums available. 10 student maximum.

INTRODUCTION TO UKULELE

Grades 2-5
Monday, 3:30-4:30pm
Instructor: Sam Smithwick
6 weeks (9/11-10/23 ; No class 10/9)
In this introductory course, students will learn all about Ukuleles! From learning how to identify parts of their ukulele, tuning their instruments, to playing traditional and contemporary ukulele songs. A great class for all abilities & a fun, relaxed way to learn a string instrument. 10 student maximum.

DRAWING

Grades K-5
Tuesday, 3:30-5:30
Instructor: Gayle Fitzpatrick
8 weeks (9/5-10/24)
Students will learn everything they need to know to be able to draw what they see, imagine and dream about! Using all kinds of mediums like charcoal, markers, pastels, pencils, ink and much more, their creativity will flow as they gain new skills and knowledge. 10 student maximum.

METALSMITHING

Grades 4+
Tuesday, 3:30-5:30pm
Instructor: Alice Carroll
8 weeks (9/5-10/24)
Learn to make earrings, pendants, rings and more with metals. Work with metalsmithing tools to form, shape & create your own designs. Polishing, hammering, and soldering will be the main focus of class. Students who have previously taken this class are encouraged to register again as projects vary with each session. 8 student maximum.

SCULPTURES

Grades 1-5

In this class, students will create wonderful sculptures out of clay and plaster. Experimenting with
additive/subtractive processes and mold making, each student will expand their creative knowledge
and abilities through fun projects.

Join us for early release Wednesdays, the first Wednesday of every month. Students will explore a variety of different art mediums. Instructors vary. 10 student maximum per workshop.

SURF ART – LET’S MAKE HISTORY

Get to know the history of surf art! Students will explore prominent periods of surf art history and create their own pieces that reflect that time. Exploration will include drawing, print making, collage and even painting mini surf boards! Join us for a unique historical journey. Mahalo! 10 student

Guitar Band is designed for elementary school students interested in learning to play guitar. Students will learn songs through rhythm and chords while learning how to play as a group/ensemble. A great class for all abilities & a fun, relaxed way to learn a string instrument. 10 student maximum.

PAINTING PALETTE
Grades K-5
Tuesday, 3:30-5:30

Love to paint? This class is designed for students who love to paint everything from animals, to portraits to landscapes. All mediums will be introduced and include watercolors and acrylics. Students will leave with a number of masterpieces that can be added to their art collection. 10 student maximum.

MUSIC, MOVEMENT & MAGIC
Wednesday, 10-11am
Ages 3-6

A great class to introduce your young one to music and expressive movement. A creative introduction to the magic of multicultural stories with musical instruments from all over the world, different styles of dance, drumming, singing and themes to fit the time of year. Students to be dropped off by parents / guardians. 8 student maximum.

PHOTOGRAPHY FUN! (NEW)
Grades 4+
Thursday, 3:30-5:30
Instructor: Christine Anuszewski
6 weeks (11/02-12/14 ; No class 11/23 + 12/21)
This workshop is for students who want to have fun and learn about photography. Students will focus on enhancing their creativity while learning about the art of photography. Students can bring a smartphone or digital camera. Join us for a fun class and leave with the knowledge of knowing how to take a better photo of what you see while also learning some basic photography tips! 8 student maximum.

  • Registration closes 5 days prior to each class starting.
  • Classes subject to cancellation if we do not meet the 4 student minimum.
