DANCE
Dance Classes with Angela Hamel Russel
Monday
3:30-4:15 Tap/Jazz ages 5-9:
Beginners through more experienced dancers will learn new dance routines & work as a group to prepare for the January performance. Students will learn the fundamentals of Jazz & Ballet, including leaps, turns &twirls.
4:15-5:00 Hip Hop ages 5-9:
Learn fun and exciting steps with an introduction to break dance. With upbeat music and steps your child is sure to have fun.
5-5:45 Ballet/Lyrical ages 5-9:
Learn the basics and technique of ballet along with fun and free moving lyrical. Your child will have fun listening to classical and whimsical music.
Thursday
10:30-11:15 Hip Hop ages 3-4.
11:15-12:00 Ballet ages 3-4.
3:30-4:15 Ballet ages 3-4:
Start to learn the fundamentals of ballet in a fun and playful learning environment. Your child will learn dance skills that will help them later in life with any style of dance.
1:30-2:15 Hip Hop ages 3-4:
Come move and groove in this fun and upbeat dance class. Your child will have fun learning steps and fundamental skills for dance.
4:15-5:00 Hip Hop ages 5-9:
With fun pop and hip hop music, your child will learn fun steps, including a few break dancing moves and great dance skills.
5:00-5:45 Hip Hop ages 10-13:
With fun pop and hip hop music, your child will learn fun steps, including a few break dancing moves and great dance skills.
Friday
There is no Afterschool Package available on Fridays.
2:30-3:15 Hip Hop 14+
With fun pop and hip hop music, your child will learn fun steps, including a few break dancing moves and great dance skills.
3:30-4:15 Irish Step ages 5-9
This fun style is full of skips and jumps. This high energy Celtic style is sure to be fun and exciting.
4:15-5:00 Irish Step ages 10-13.
Learn the traditional soft shoe style of dance first, and then throughout the year start to learn the exciting hard shoe Irish Dance.
5:00-5:45 Irish Step ages 14+.
This advanced style of Irish is fun and upbeat. While working on both soft shoe and hard shoe throughout the year, your child will learn fundamental skills in both styles.
ART
Afterschool Art School 3:30-5:30pm, grades K-5, with Bryce Jones
Tuesday, Thursday
January: Inspired by winter! Snowscapes, glass art & sculpture will be introduced.
February: All about drawing. From still life to life in motion, we’ll explore the people & places that inspire artists.
March: Impressionism & Cubism. We’ll move from classic Monet to the beginning of the Modern art movement
April: All about Architecture. 2D & 3D design from the ancients to modern times.
May: We’ll spend 2 full weeks learning & experimenting with the style of the Wyeth family. Then Paris, with Love art styles for 2 full weeks.
June: Photography! Borrow your parent’s camera to capture photos of the scenic areas close to River Tree. All children will need permission to go offsite.
K-5 Modern Art Monday, with Abbeth Russell
Students will learn about modern art through a series of fun projects, games, and exercises. We will cover impressionism, cubism, expressionism, surrealism, pop art, and more. By the end of this class, students will know what each of these movements is all about and how to make art in the style of that movement. They will also create an art movement of their very own.
Intro to Sewing: 3:30-5:30pm, grades 2-5, with Lucy Hardy- Tuesday
Learn the lifelong, exciting skill of sewing. Boys and girls ages eight and up will learn how to operate a sewing machine as they make a project from scraps or gently used materials. All materials included in the fee.
MUSIC
Theory Level 1 with Lauren Hastings
Tuesdays, March 15-June 10 (no class 4/16) 7-8pm, $20/members, $22/non members
Students will learn the some of the basic elements or building blocks of music. This class will further your understanding of musical components and structures. Topics will include scales, key signatures, the circle of 5ths, overtones, intervals and chords as they relate to all styles of music. A seminar styled class will encourage students to participate through written work, ear training and sight singing. Students will receive weekly assignments. With Lauren Hastings.
Rock Band: 3:30-5:30pm, grades 2-5, with Duane Edwards
Wednesday
This class is designed to rock and roll! Songs selected will range from The Beatles, Blur, Nirvana, and beyond. Students will work as a band as they focus on their favorite tunes in a productive setting. All instruments welcome & encouraged. Prerequisite: students must have prior experience in school band or private lessons.
THEATRE
River Glee : 3:30-5:30pm, grades 1-5, with Ann Guiney
An introduction to the world of musical theater, through fun games and exercises. Students will be learning songs from Broadway shows & popular music, as well as rehearsing their performance skills. Students will explore the basics of vocal technique and acting as well as theatrical dance and song. This class is open to all levels of students and abilities.
Performances will be held November 13, March 12 & June 4, 5:00pm.
