River Tree Arts Summer Camps for KIDS!

River Tree Arts Camps offer students of all ages and levels of experience a wide range of workshops taught by teaching artists. Our Camps and Workshops are structured to provide the community a variety of options to accommodate busy summer schedules. Camps include, clay, drawing, dance, painting, juggling, metalsmithing, collaborative projects and more.
All camps are age specific.


PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CAMPS. 
CAMPS MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 4 STUDENTS IN ORDER TO RUN. 
ALL CAMPS ARE SUBJECT TO CANCELLATION DUE TO LOW NUMBERS, SO DO NOT DELAY IN REGISTERING!

 

FULL WEEK CAMPS

River Tree Arts Full Week Art Camps will be offered 6 weeks this summer and run Monday through Friday. Each week will offer creative and engaging art workshops with many of River Tree’s talented and inspiring faculty members. Camps are age specific.

All-Day options will be available for many camps this summer. All-day camps, which run from 9am-4pm will consist of a morning and an afternoon session with a lunch/recreation break from 12 to 1pm.

Fee for Full Week Art Camps: $145 (members $130)
Fee for All-Day/Full Week: $265 (members $240)
Price includes lunch/recreation hour.

* Early drop-off, late pick-up option available for an additional $30. This fee will cover the entire week and is only available for All-Day/Full Week camps.

* Students enrolled in the All-Day option are advised to pack a lunch.


THREE DAY CAMPS

River Tree Arts Three Day Art Camps offer students a variety of creative and engaging art workshops with many of RTA’s talented and inspiring faculty members.

Fee for 3-Day Art Camps: $85 (members $75)
Fee for All-Day/3-Day Art Camps: $185 (members $165)
Price includes lunch/recreation hour.

* Students enrolled in the All-Day option are advised to pack a lunch.


ONE DAY CAMPS

River Tree Arts One Day Art Camps accommodates those with busy summer schedules; offering a variety of creative and engaging art workshops without the long-term commitment.

Fee for 3hr Camps: $30 (members $25)
* There is a $5 fee for lunch/recreation hour for students enrolled in both morning and afternoon camps.

Fee for 5hr Camps: $50 (members $45) + Materials fee
Fee for 6hr Camps: $65 (members $60) + Materials fee

* Students are advised to pack a lunch.

June 27 – July 1 (All-Day Option)

* ART BUILDERS, 9 to 12pm

5-day Workshop, June 27 through July 1, 9 to 12p.m.
Instructor: Megan Holtham
For grades entering 1+
Design, build, shape, sculpt, and construct a variety of different art materials to produce original works of art in this 5 day camp! Through individual and group projects, students will explore the third dimension through clay, wire, cardboard, aluminum foil, recycled materials and more. Bring your imaginations and let’s build! 12 student maximum.
Fee: $145 (members $130)

* FUN-DAMENTALS of DESIGN DISCOVERY CAMP, 1 to 4pm

5-day Workshop, June 27 through July 1, 1 to 4p.m.
Instructor: Heather Lewis
For grades entering 1+
Through collages, mosaics, textiles, pastels, watercolor, pencils, rubbings, printing, painting, and more, explore the “FUN”dementals of design- by playing with lots of different materials and techniques! 12 student maximum.
Fee: $145 (members $130)

 

July 11 – July 15

* WORLD OF WONDER: A Multicultural Arts Program for Kids! 9 to 12pm

5-day Workshop, July 11 through July 15, 9 to 12p.m.
Instructor: Barbara Fraser
For grades entering 1+
“WOW” will explore the stories and cultures around the world through theater, music, art and movement. We will study pantomime, improvisation, group art projects, dance, yoga, drumming, and wind instruments. In addition to encouraging creative thinking and expression, this enriching program helps develop team skills, literacy and self esteem. 12 student maximum.
Fee: $145 (members $130)

 

July 25 – July 29

* INTRO TO POTTERY FOR TWEENS & TEENS, 9 to 12pm

5-day Workshop, July 25 through 29, 9 to 12p.m.
Instructor: Megan Holtham
Ages 12+
Hand-building as well as throwing on the pottery wheel basics will be covered in this 5-Day Pottery Workshop. Students will learn to make custom textures to create their own unique pieces of functional art! All finished pieces will be glazed on our final day of class and pottery will be durable and food safe. 8 student maximum.
Fee: $145 (members $130) + $20 Materials Fee

 

August 15 – August 19

* DRAWING & SKETCHING CAMP, 1 to 4pm

5-day workshop, Aug. 15 through 19, 1-4p.m.
Instructor: Heather Lewis
For ages 12+
If you love to draw and want to develop your skills and gain a little more confidence, this is the camp for you! Working in the studio and outdoors, when possible, you’ll learn age old techniques from the Masters to draw what you see. 12 student maximum.
Fee: $145 (members $130)

 

August 22 – August 26

We need YOU to be a part of a creative team to create a large scale community art project! From concept and development, to creation and installation, this creative team will make a large scale work of art to be enjoyed by all! 12 student maximum.

3-day Class, July 19 through July 21, 9 to 12p.m.
Instructor: Angela Hamel Russell
Grades entering: 1-3
Aspiring dancers and true beginners will start of each morning with a ballet lesson in front of the big mirror with Miss Angela.  The remainder of each day will be spent creating ballet crafts (fairy crowns, ballet wall art & necklaces, to name a few), ballet-inspired storytime and a final ballet class before leaving.  The last day of camp will end with a special tea party- bring your favorite doll, teddy bear or stuffed animal to join in the tea party fun.  8 student maximum.
Fee: $85 (members $75)

 

July 19 – July 21 (All-Day option)

* CREATE YOUR OWN WORLD, 9 to 12pm

3-Day Camp, July 19 through July 21, 9 to 12p.m.
Instructor: Abbeth Russel
For grades entering 1+
Using art supplies and recycled materials, each student will make their own character and build a home for them.  As a class we will then work together to create our own unique world by combining and exploring our characters and their homes. 12 student maximum.
Fee: $85 (members $75)

* FANTASY PUPPETRY & JUGGLING, 1 to 4pm

3-Day Camp, July 19 through July 21, 1 to 4p.m.
Instructor: Abbeth Russel
For grades entering 1+
Learn the basics of juggling and make your own colorful juggling balls. Create fantastic characters and bring them to life through masks and puppets. We will combine everything we make and learn into a final performance. 12 student maximum.

August 2 – August 4 (All-Day Option)

* PLEIN AIR: TRAVELING ART CAMP, 9 to 12pm

3-Day Camp, August 2 through August 4, 9 to 12p.m.
Instructor: Abbeth Russel
For grades entering 3+
Back by popular demand! Head out on location to iconic locations throughout Dock Square. Sketch studies of downtown Dock Square, ocean scenes, the waterfront and more. In the event of rain, we will hold camp at RTA. Please bring a backpack to carry supplies, a snack and drink. All materials provided. 10 student maximum.
Fee: $85 (members $75)

* DRAWING CLUB, 1 to 4pm

3-Day Camp, August 2 through August 4, 1 to 4p.m.
Instructor: Abbeth Russel
For grades entering 3+
In this three day camp, students will develop basic drawing skills and learn a variety of art concepts including still life, portraiture, realism/abstract, perspective and more. This camp is suitable for curious beginners or those with prior experience looking to expand their skills set with instruction.10 student maximum.
Fee: $85 (members $75)

August 10 – 12

* METALSMITHING 101 Camp is FULL

3-Day Workshop, Aug. 10 through 12, 9 to 12p.m.
Instructor: Alice Carroll
Grades entering 4+
Learn to make earrings, pendants, rings and more with metals- work with metalsmithing tools to form, shape & create your own designs. Polishing, hammering and soldering will be the main focus of camp. Each student will make a bracelet, ring and a pendant. 8 student maximum.
Fee: $85 (members $75) + $20 materials fee

 

August 16 – August 18 

* GET MESSY! 9 to 12pm  Camp is FULL

3-Day workshop, Aug. 16 through 18, 9-12p.m.
Instructor: Laura Savard
For grades 1+
The name says it all! Campers will be true innovators as they discover the many ways to create ART through group and individual projects. Several mediums, tricks and techniques will be creatively explored in this camp. Weather permitting, this camp will largely be held outdoors and students should expect to get messy, so please wear appropriate clothing.12 student maximum.
Fee: $85 (members $75)

July 13 

* METALSMITHING FOR TEENS INTENSIVE, 9 to 2pm

1-Day Workshop, 9 to 2p.m.
Instructor: Alice Carroll
For ages 12+
Use metalsmithing tools to form, shape & create your own designs. Hammering, polishing, sawing, filing and soldering will be the main focus of class. Each student will create a piece with a bezel set stone in it.  Make earrings, pendants, wristband, rings, dog tags (necklace/ID or actual dog tag) during this 5 hour workshop. 8 student maximum.
(We will take a 45min lunch/recreation break halfway through class. Students are advised to pack a lunch.)

July 22

For grades entering: 3rd-8th
Have you always wanted to create articles of clothing and new accessories? Students will learn the basics of operating a sewing machine in this camp and be on their way to becoming a Fashion Designer! 8 student maximum.
Fee: $30 (members $25)

 

August 4

* RIVER TREE CHORUS & BAND ENSEMBLE, from 4 to 5:30pm

1-Day workshop, August 4, 4 to 5:30pm
Call to school age (grades 1 – 6) singers and musicians! Join Barbara Fraser at River Tree Arts on August 25 for an exciting workshop offering different types of singing, percussion, drums, winds and piano. You are invited to bring instruments from home and be part of the fun! We will start with our favorite song tunes from “Music Together,” and explore Classic Rock, theatrical songs and even our won compositions! All levels of training welcome.

Fee: $20 per student

 

August 5

* THE RIVER TREE ILLUSTRATION PROJECT, 9 to 2pm

1-Day Workshop, August 5, 9 to 2p.m.
Instructor: Heather Lewis
For grades entering 1+
During this exciting workshop we will develop and illustrate the story of the River Tree and have a printed book to take home! 12 student maximum.
(We will take a 45min lunch/recreation break halfway through class. Students are advised to pack a lunch.)

August 9 

* KIDS PLAY, WITH CLAY, 9 to 2pm Camp is FULL

1-Day Workshop, August 9, 9 to 2p.m.

For grades entering 1+
Clay is a fun and endlessly versatile art medium. Playing with clay is a great way to introduce art to your curious child and or help them expand on his/her interest in art. In this camp, students will explore through play how to bend, twist, pinch and coil their own finished masterpieces. All pieces will be fired in RTA’s kiln and will be ready for pick up within 10 days of workshop. 8 student maximum. (We will take a 45min lunch/recreation break halfway through class. Students are advised to pack a lunch.)

August 15

* BUILDING A BAG, 10:30 to 1:30pm

1-Day Workshop, August 15, 10:30 to 1:30p.m.
Instructor: Amy DesRoberts
For grades entering: 3rd-8th
Learn to make a beautiful, hand-crafted bag for all your summer treasures! Using basic sewing techniques, Amy will walk students through this fun and approachable sewing workshop. By the end of the class students will have completed their own bag and be inspired to go home and make a dozen more! 8 student maximum.

August 20 (All-Day option) 

* MAKE YOUR OWN CARD GAME! 9 to 12pm

1-Day Workshop, August 20, 9 to 12p.m.
Instructor: William Hessian (A.K.A. Mr. Billy)
Grades entering 2+
In this One-Day Camp, students will be challenged to invent their own card game by designing characters, drawing them, coloring them, developing game rules, and then playing with other students. William Hessian is the inventor of PBL ROBOTS and has taught Card Game classes across the Midwest that helped dozens of students invent amazing and unique games. 12 student maximum.

* THE ART OF STAR WARS, 1 to 4pm Camp is FULL

1-Day Workshop, August 20, 1 to 4p.m.
Instructor: William Hessian (A.K.A. Mr. Billy)
Grades entering 2+
Back by popular demand! This is the science fiction art class that will explore droids, monsters, spaceships and bounty hunters. If you love Star Wars, you will love to learn step by step how to draw all kinds of different characters & scenes. By the end of the class, each student will have a stack of detailed drawings of their favorite Star Wars heroes, villains, aircrafts and more. 12 student maximum.

August 22 

* UP-CYCLED FASHION, 9 to 12pm Camp is FULL

For grades entering: 3rd-8th
Let’s create some new clothes with clothing you may have at home. Please bring with you any outgrown or past loved clothes and at least one t-shirt to up-cycle to create a new look!
