Intro to Painting

Sunday afternoons 1:00 – 4:30pm

Session I (8 weeks)
February 3 – March 24
Instructor: Heather Lewis

Understand the fundamentals of working with color, and composition! Learn through foundational exercises that take the guesswork out of mixing color, setting up a palette and, with plenty of studio time, explore materials and processes, learn from the work of Masters past and present, and paint! All skill levels welcome. There will be small breaks for a light snack and a stretch. Coffee and tea will be provided during the break.

Observational Drawing I

Learn how to capture what you see on paper! With plenty of studio time working from set-ups, veteran artist/ teacher Heather Lewis, will introduce you to age old exercises and techniques. Gain confidence as your drawing skills develop!  All skill levels welcome. There will be a few breaks so please pack a lunch. Coffee and tea will be provided during the break.

“FUN”damentals of Design

Thursday afternoons 12:00 – 3:00pm

Session I (8 weeks)
February 7 – March 28

Color! Shape! Texture! Pattern! – Explore the elements of design by working/playing with lots of different materials and processes- collage, mosaics, cutting, making rubbings, painting, assembling and more! During first class, the instructor will provide basic materials, and talk about those needed during the session.

All skill levels welcome. There will be a few breaks so please pack a snack. Coffee and tea will be provided during the break.

ABOUT HEATHER LEWIS

HEATHER LEWIS – VISUAL ARTIST, TEACHER, COACH

Heather Lewis possesses a life-long immersion in the arts beginning in Delaware with artist parents, fine art training at The Philadelphia College of Art, and over three decades of actively creating art for exhibition and sale. PASSIONATE about helping others reconnect with their own creativity, she is a seasoned studio arts instructor and creativity coach who inspires learning through her engaging and encouraging teaching style. She has taught and conducted workshops throughout the northeast for all different age levels from pre-school to college. She is an adjunct studio arts professor at York County Community College. “As with her paintings, Heather’s classroom instruction serves as a magical conduit through which others discover their own dreams, visions, images, and feelings.

She creates a learning environment where her students feel safe to explore and, simultaneously, challenged and stretched to their highest potential. Heather truly embraces and models the belief that her classroom provides the venue to set the creator in each of us free. “ Susan M. Vitale.

REFRESHING and ORIGINAL, Lewis masterfully captures and interprets the beauty of the natural world around her, infusing it with a certain emotional vitality. She has exhibited extensively in her native Delaware, central New York, and throughout New England, with work included in prominent private and corporate collections. Heather Lewis is a long time resident of the Maine seacoast which is a constant source of inspiration for her art.

 


WATERCOLORS

Join Russel Whitten in the studio working from still lifes using watercolors! This class is suitable for all levels. A great class for first time artists who are new to exploring this medium and intermediate artists looking to fine tune their skills.

CERAMICS

Wednesday evenings 6 – 8:30pm

Instructor: Brendan Roddy
6 weeks (03/13-4/24) no class 4/17

Join ceramic artist, Brendan Roddy for a fun and informative, hands-in-clay experience. In this class, students will be introduced to a variety of hand building techniques to create beautiful and functional works of art inspired by the season. Demonstrations on the pottery wheel will give students the confidence to explore and create bowls, plates, mugs and more. The last week of class will be focussed on basic glaze application and all work will be fired in RTA’s kiln which will make pottery durable and functional.

*** Intermediate level students are welcome to join. If you have more experience, we can build on what you already know. Class is limited to 8 students.

Workshops are one-day events that take place, periodically, on the weekends. River Tree Arts strives to bring in talented practicing artists to offer you a variety of the finest and skilled experiences out there. From Belly Dancing to Exploring Pastels, our workshops afford you the opportunity to experience something new, within the arts, without a long term commitment.

Craft Night is an ongoing, 2 hour program that takes place every Thursday evening from 6pm to 8pm at River Tree Arts. We will offer a rotation of many different fun crafts and activities, such as Crafts with Driftwood, Aromatherapy, Custom Painted Signs and much more. Expand on the creativity you already posses and join us every Thursday night for a creative and social evening.
