Instructor: Leah Payne Gouache paint is often a medium that most haven’t heard of, but it’s perfect for bold, illustrative, and stylish work! This class will explore gouache painting techniques and materials to help you create works with your own artistic voice. Learn from a professional gouache illustrator all the tricks of this wonderful medium! In-class projects will help you develop the skills and confidence to continue painting even after the class is over. This class is tailored towards beginner gouache artists, but any experience in painting is welcome.

Instructor: Hannah Medovnikov Join instructor Hannah Medovnikov on Monday evenings for a night of clay exploration in Advanced Clay Class. This class is geared towards students who have taken a course at River Tree or with equivalent ceramics experience. The class will be structured more independently than our introductory clay course. Students will be expected to do research outside of class and come prepared with their own projects. Hannah will be a hands-on resource for guidance, questions, and for any other challenges that may arise in a project. Students must have previously taken a Ceramics class at River Tree Arts in order to sign up.

This class will begin with teaching you basic crochet techniques that will give you the base knowledge to start creating anything you want! Each week will focus on learning a different guided project perfect for the season and great for beginners. Some projects include hats, scarves, granny squares, ornaments, and more!

In this class, students will be introduced to a variety of hand-building techniques to create beautiful and functional works of art inspired by everyday life. Students are encouraged to research work that inspires them in order to achieve their creative goals alongside instruction and guidance. Students will also have the chance to work on the wheel to create mugs and bowls. The last week of class will be focused on basic glaze application and all work will be fired in RTA’s kiln which will make pottery durable and functional.

Let’s capture the last blast of summer while painting Zinnias! We will create fresh, loose watercolor paintings inspired by these colorful garden favorites. You will learn brush strokes and basic watercolor techniques to creating beautiful art without needing to draw. This class is for beginners. All materials are provided. Come enjoy an evening of painting a mini local landscape, the Blueberry Plains in bloom!
Learn a few basic techniques of painting with acrylics, then jump right in and try it for yourself. Explore toning and under painting a canvas and color mixing while painting a field of wildflowers. Students will create a mini painting to master new techniques. Please wear clothes that would look good with paint on them.
