Observational Drawing

This is an introductory class where you will learn how to capture what you see on paper! With plenty of studio time working from set-ups, veteran artist/ teacher Heather Lewis will introduce you to age-old exercises and techniques. Landscape Painting (Acrylics)

Learn to be fearless in your landscape painting. Six weeks of studio landscape painting in acrylics working with reference photos to paint what you see with glowing color and light. We will explore simplifying your subject, using drawing for strong compositions, developing seeing skills, learning or refreshing some basics, having fun with painting and loosening up with your work. Each class will start with a brief demo on the topic of the class. Students will paint in each class from provided reference photos or from their own photo. Individual feedback and class discussions of work will help to strengthen painting skills. Materials list provided. MEMBERS: $170  NON-MEMBERS: $190

Learn to Sew

Wednesday evenings 6 – 8 pm

Have you always wanted to learn how to sew? Now is your chance! River Tree is now offering a relaxed yet informative class for those with little or no knowledge of sewing. After this 6 week class, you will feel confident in your basic sewing skills.

We will cover: Sewing machine basics (care & use) / Stitch basics and types / Fabric and fiber types / Marking and cutting fabric / Understanding sewing pattern markings / Sizing and fitting

We will work on some beginner’s projects so you will have some finished pieces to bring home and show off. What to bring: Sewing Machine (If you do not have your own machine, one can be supplied)

Ceramics  (FULL)

Join ceramic artist, Brendan Roddy for a fun and informative, hands-in-clay experience. In this class, students will be introduced to a variety of hand building techniques to create beautiful and functional works of art inspired by the season. Demonstrations on the pottery wheel will give students the confidence to explore and create bowls, plates, mugs and more. The last week of class will be focussed on basic glaze application and all work will be fired in RTA’s kiln which will make pottery durable and functional.

*** Intermediate level students are welcome to join. If you have more experience, we can build on what you already know. Class is limited to 8 students.

Library of Hand Bound Books

Thursdays, 6-8pm

Adults & Young Adults (ages 16+)
Instructor: Gayle Fitzpatrick
(4 weeks)  November 7 – December 5  (no class 11/28)

In this class, students will create 6 book structures: a simple pamphlet book, a Japanese Stab Bound book, a basic Codex, a hardcover accordion book, a hardcover book with signatures sewn on tapes, and flutter books. Class will focus on the techniques, structures, tools, materials and processes.  MEMBERS: $120   NON-MEMBERS: $138
