CLASSES & WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS
| Metals for Minors – Metal Art (Grades 3-6)
Authentic metalworking experiences emphasizing hand strengthening, material science, engineering basics, critical thinking, problem solving, and the history of metals in New England. This class will focus on using “Cold Connections” such as riveting, capturing and tabs to connect metal parts on small sculptural objects. We will use many recycled materials including bicycle parts and manufacturing scrap to make both stationary and kinetic sculpture. Other materials can be combined with the metal wire and scrap and connection options explored. Collaboration between students will be encouraged. |

Book & Art Series – Fall Session 1
In this 7-week book and art series, children ages 3–5 will explore stories, textures, colors, and a variety of creative materials beyond the standard classroom supplies. Each week, we’ll read a fun, seasonal or holiday-themed book and create an art project inspired by the story. Along the way, children will have opportunities to practice important early-learning skills such as cutting with scissors, tracing, painting, gluing, problem-solving, and working together with others all while exploring their creativity and having fun!
*Important note: Children attending this program must be fully potty trained and able to use the bathroom independently. This is a drop-off program, and caregivers do not need to remain on site. |
Fashion Illustration (Grades 5-9) 
Fashion illustration is where art, history, and imagination come together. In this studio art class, students will explore fashion as a form of creative expression while building strong foundational drawing skills. Working with a variety of traditional art materials, students will learn to draw the human figure, explore proportion, gesture, line, value, color, pattern, and texture, and develop original fashion illustrations inspired by historical dress, world cultures, and contemporary design. Through observation, experimentation, and creative problem-solving, students will strengthen their artistic confidence and discover how artists use clothing to communicate identity, culture, and storytelling. This is a fine arts illustration class focused on drawing and mixed-media exploration. Students will create original artwork and sketchbook studies while developing their personal artistic voice. No sewing or garment construction is involved. |

Intro to Guitar with Sam Smithwick (Grades 3-5)
Our Beginner Intro to Guitar Group sessions are the perfect introduction to the world of music! Designed for students in grades 3-5, this fun and supportive class teaches the basics of guitar in an exciting group setting. No prior experience needed – just bring a guitar and a willingness to learn! Group classes encourage teamwork, build confidence, and make learning fun through interactive games, musical activities, and progress at a comfortable pace. Students are expected to provide their own instruments when possible. RTA has a limited number of guitars available to loan for this class. Students will learn:

Learn to Sew! (Grades 2-5) 
Instructor: Lucy Hardy Discover the joy of sewing in this hands-on class! Students will learn the essentials of operating a sewing machine, threading a bobbin, using an iron safely, and reading patterns – all while creating unique projects. Campers will make a patchwork pillow, pot holder and fleece hat and may make another item if time allows, building practical skills and confidence along the way. This class is perfect for beginners and budding young designers who want to create one-of-a-kind items, learn safe sewing techniques, and explore their creativity in a fun, supportive environment. |
Jewelry & Accessories: Wearable Art (Grades 5-9)
Transform everyday materials into extraordinary works of wearable art! In this creative studio class, students will explore jewelry and accessory design through an artistic lens, experimenting with a wide variety of materials, textures, and techniques. We’ll challenge traditional ideas of what jewelry can be, encouraging imaginative thinking, creative risk-taking, and innovative design. From statement necklaces and sculptural earrings to brooches, hair accessories, wearable sculptures, and mixed-media creations, students will discover how artists use unexpected materials to express ideas and tell stories. Along the way, they’ll build design skills, develop craftsmanship, and create a collection of unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect their own artistic vision. No prior experience is necessary – just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to think outside the box! |

- In the case that a class is canceled due to weather and a student cannot attend the rain-date, refunds will not be issued.
- All children need to have a completed consent form on file before attending classes without an adult: RTA Consent Form
- If there are any allergies or serious medical information that we need to be aware of before your child attends art camp, kindly ensure that you provide this information as early as possible so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
- No early drop off or late picks up can be accommodated.
- RTA is a NUT-FREE facility.
