This summer at River Tree Arts there are various creative opportunities for kids, from one-day workshops to week-long day camps. Please pay close attention to the camp dates and times when registering.

 

JUNE 24-28

Learn to draw live animals at AWS!

MONDAY-FRIDAY, JUNE 24-28 (5 days)
Grades 6+

Location: Animal Welfare Society, 46 Holland Rd, Kennebunk, ME 04043. The workshop will be held in the Boston House building at AWS.

 

Instructor: Piper Castles

In this camp, we will focus on core skills of drawing while observing shelter animals. Students will build their drawing skill set from the ground up, starting with line of action, building up shapes, learning to check for accuracy by measuring, adding value and details. Drawing skills are the basis for all art and learning to draw from life can be challenging but so much fun too! Join us in supporting the shelter with this popular camp.

JULY 1-3

FASHION DESIGN CAMP

Grades 2-5

Instructor: Satsi Schimelpfenig

In this camp, students will learn the basic skills of fashion design by doing projects using both traditional fashion design techniques as well as some creative craft and art techniques. Using a variety of sewing, art, and recycled supplies, students will create their own unique pieces and show off their skills and creativity. Students will complete a few projects throughout the week.  Under the guidance of Ms. Satsi, students will be able to have some use of sewing machines.  This will be a super fun camp for both girls and boys. At the end of the week, students will walk the runway to showcase their pieces, which parents are invited to watch!

SUMMER PAINTING

Artists will explore color and shape to help them discover their individual artistic styles. Explore color mixing, creating texture, as well as choosing materials. Students will work on various surfaces including canvases, rocks, and traditional paper. Please wear clothes that look good with paint on them!

In this camp, junior illustrators will bring their skills to the next level. We will experiment with many fun drawing games and exercises to spark creativity. Scribble drawing, sketching, character drawing, still life and more! Students will use what they learn from these activities to create their own collection of work. The instructor will guide students to make works of art to be proud of using a variety of techniques and media.

Metalsmithing Workshop: Learn to make a ring

Instructor: Katie Boucher

This is a beginner workshop where we will be making rings. We will learn the basic techniques by using most of the tools in the studio. We will learn how to add texture to a piece, we will use the torch to solder pieces and we will learn how to clean and polish a piece. Each participant will go home with a finished product.

Act Unseen Theater Camp

We will create a popular, new radio show, designing the roles of announcers and guest artists, writing commercial and product jingles, acting out original stories, creating music/sound effects with easy-to-play instruments. EXPLORE THE ARTS Camp

Want to try different kinds of art? Join us for “Explore the Arts camp” where students will experience a variety of art in an all-in-one camp. From ceramics, to painting and drawing as well as dancing and fun movement games, students will get to experience a wide variety of different art mediums in a fun, engaging and creative way!

 

This is a full-day, week-long camp:

  • 9:00-11:30AM: Ceramics w/ Satsi (includes snack break)
  • 11:30AM-12:30PM Dance/Movement w/ Abby
  • 12:30-1:00PM Lunch Break
  • 1:00-3:00PM Art w/Leah

Students provide their own snacks AND lunch (RTA is a NUT-FREE facility)

WORLD OF WONDER

Around the continents we go- with music/movement, art, and theater- all rolled into one literacy-based, fun, creative whirlwind. From the magic of Celtic music, harp, recorders, unicorns and dragons, fairies and sorcerers, to the wild animal fables and drums of Africa, to the bells, yoga, and origami of Asia, the class will decide how long to stay, and where we want to dive into next.

Character Creation and Worldbuilding

In this drawing camp, students will learn the fundamentals of character design, such as: drawing faces and figures, how to stretch proportions to create compelling characters, expressions, and poses, and how to put their original characters into a scene for story telling. Students will get to create their own characters and settings, and put the two together into a final illustration that tells a compelling story!

Act Out Theater Camp

PLEASE BE ADVISED:

  • Pre-registration is required for all camps. 
  • Camps must have a minimum of 4 attendees in order to run. Camps are subject to cancellation due to low inrollment so don’t delay and register today! 
  • All campers need to have a completed consent form online before the first day of camp: RTA Consent Form
  • If there are any allergies or serious medical information that we need to be aware of before a camp, kindly ensure that you provide this information as early as possible so that we can make the necessary arrangements.  
  • No early drop off or late picks up can be accommodated. Students are asked to stick to camp times.
  • Doors for morning camps will open no earlier than 8:55am. 
  • Be sure to pack a snack and drink for each day of camp. Creativity makes campers hungry! PLEASE BE ADVISED RTA is a NUT-FREE facility. 
  • Don’t dress in your best clothing for camps; art can get messy!
  • If your child is enrolled in back to back camps, they must be picked up after the first camp and then dropped off for the afternoon session. RTA is not able to provide care between camps.
