What is Competitive Dance?
Competitive dance is offered to students who are very serious about dancing and who want to compete in their chosen style. Aside from attending competitions, dancers will also have the opportunity to travel to dance conventions, where they will take a variety of classes from some of the industry’s top dance professionals.
What is the commitment for team members?
- Team members are expected to attend all weekly classes. Absences not only affect the individual, but the team as a whole.
- Dancers are only allowed 2 unexcused absences from their competitive classes. Unless you are ill, excused absences will
need prior approval from the teacher. - Dancers need to be available for competitions – these dates will be advised asap.
- Extra rehearsals may be added as we approach a competition or performance.
- As a team member, dancers should be involved in any fundraising efforts or group activities during the year.
- Students are responsible for ALL fees associated with competitive dance. This includes: competition and convention fees,
team apparel, and travel expenses.
What are the expenses involved with Competitive Dance?
- Aside from tuition and costumes fees, team members will also be responsible for any fees associated with competitions and
conventions. - Team members are responsible for purchasing team apparel.
- Competition registration fees – These vary with each competition and depend on the number of dancers in the routine.
- Students taking private instruction for solos, duets or trios will be responsible for their own costume fees.
- Tuition for costumes is only applied to group classes.
When are Competitions, Conventions and Performances?
- We anticipate attending 2-3 competitions during the 2023/2024 dance season. While the dates do change, they are usually
held in March and April. All dancers are expected to attend. Final details will be announced as they become available. - Conventions are optional opportunities for all dancers.
- Competitive dancers will participate in a minimum of two performances during the season (February & May).
Fundraising Opportunities
- Throughout the dance year, some fundraising opportunities are held to help offset the cost of competitions.
- Monies raised are equally shared between those students that provide assistance during these opportunities.
- All dancers are encouraged to participate in any fundraising events.
Dress Code
- While we are lenient with our dress code policy, dancers should arrive for class in appropriate footwear and clothing. Please
ask your instructor if you have specific questions.
Courtesy and Respect
- Team members will be held to the highest standards of conduct.
- Team members are expected to be respectful, supportive and encouraging.
- Dancers should be positive in spirit, attitude, and behavior.
- Punctuality is just as important as attendance – dancers should arrive on time and prepared for their class.
- Being a member of the River Tree Arts Dance Team is a privilege and comes with responsibility. Personal accountability is
essential for a successful season. - As a member of the RTA team, dancers may not participate in another competitive dance program outside of RTA.
