Breathe Life Into Your Studio Paintings
2-Day Studio Workshop
March 21-22, 2020 9:00am-4:00pm
LOCATION: River Tree Arts, Kennebunk, Maine
This two-day workshop will focus on painting “alla prima” (all at once) in the studio from a photo reference as well as developing greater skills of observation, simplification and quickly painting “wet on wet” to create strong dynamic and expressive paintings filled with life. Learn how to properly use your photo references to create “artistic” paintings rather than simply “mimic” a photograph.
Beginning with a brief discussion on oil painting basics (from materials to paint handling), the workshop will also address the fundamentals of color, value, edges, perspective and other “practical” elements that will help maintain the freshness and spontaneity in your work. Participants will do small, timed painting exercises utilizing photo references and incorporating the painting techniques discussed with plenty of one-on-one individual instruction.
Each day’s instruction will include a short painting demo by Dan, with explanation of his process along the way. This workshop is designed for beginning to advanced painters in both acrylic and oil mediums. Participants are encouraged to bring photos to paint from or may choose from photo references brought by the instructor.
SPACE IS LIMITED – class size is limited to fifteen. Participants supply their own art supplies and equipment. For registration and suggested supply list, CLICK HERE.
