A day in the life of our arts director…

Working at an arts center, my day is never ordinary. As the arts director, each day may include an office visit from afterschool kids covered in paint or clay, meeting artists or interviewing musicians, planning an evening event or listening to students down the hall practicing a solo from Les Mis. It is a great way to spend the day. Our lives at River Tree Arts are shaped by our students: their interests and needs determine our direction as a community arts center. The River Tree Kids afterschool program was created out of the needs of parents to have their children taken care of during the critical afterschool hours. All Kennebunk area schools send a school bus directly to our center, 5 days a week. RTA provides students with programming until 5:30pm, which includes theater, dance, art & music. To celebrate our afterschool kids, we are participating in National Youth Art Month. From March 8-29, our gallery represents artists ages 3-18. RTA students are displayed, as are local schools & students who responded to our open call to artists. Please stop by to see their artwork & sculptures, created with pride and determination. It may be the best art show you’ve seen all winter- – Juliette Coldreck, Arts Director.
